CONTEMPORARY HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ISSUES AND CONCERNS IN THE HOTEL intentness: IDENTIFYING THE PRIORITIES Dr. Hui-O Yang Department Of International Business Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages, Taiwan 96063@mail.wtuc.edu.tw Dr. Hsin-Wei Fu Department Of tourism I-Shou University, Taiwan Hfu@Isu.edu.tw ABSTRACT This article reports on a study which explored the views of managers in the hotel industry in Taiwan as to the roughly cardinal issues in human resource management (HRM) in their industry. The results suggested that most participating hotels argon condenseed on dealing with the everyday operational challenges, such as shortages of appropriately skilled lag and employee turnover. While they perceive these issues as significant and challenging, they were mostly lean to view these as facts of life in the industry, rather than oblation more fundamental and strategic solutions for dealing with them. This study concludes that the underway and emerging challenges facing the industry in Taiwan beseech an approach to HRM which is far more strategic than the traditional focus on personnel administration; and that HRM has a key employment to play in creating and sustaining agonistic advantage in organizations. However, this willing require a significant shift in the bore-hole of thinking about HRM at executive level.
