Albert Chong

Albert V. Chong was born in Kingston, Jamaica on November 20th, 1958 to p atomic number 18nts of
African and Chinese ancestry. Chong is the stretch out of nine children of merchant parents.
He immigrated to the United States in 1977 where he lived in Brooklyn, New York until
1988. He attended the School of visual Arts in New York from 1978 - 1981 graduating
with honors. Chongs exhibiting career st cunninged in 1981 and since that clock his works
have been include in numerous museum exhibitions including considerably all over sixty group
exhibitions and seven solo exhibitions. Chong taught at the School of optic Arts, in
New York from 1986-1988, and at Mira Costa College in Oceanside California from
1989-91. In 1988 Chong, and family moved to San Diego, where he attended the
University of California, San Diego. In 1991 he was awarded the senior pilot of Fine Arts
degree from the UCSD, and in that year as well he accepted a faculty appointment
in the division of Art & Art history at the University of conscientious objector at Boulder. He is
presently Professor of art at the University of Colorado at Boulder where he teaches
photography.

Chongs photographs are in included collections both public and private, domestic and
international. The main medium of his art is expressed in photograph.



Sculptural and
kinetic installations, artist books and videos are other mediums that have been used in
Chongs long and successful career. Chongs soonest works were shot with nostalgia
and a longing for home. He has deuce-ace main bodies of photographs; the I-trait series, the
still lifes, and the Thrones for the Ancestors.

The I-trait series is comprised of self portraits made in the years 1980-1985. This series
in Chongs words are a personalization of an Afro-Caribbean, Rastafarian mystical
world view. His image titled Natural mystical is my favorite. I believe he was inspired
