This poem explores change from different lieus - Sturt and the Aborigines. Trace the worldly concern of their thoughts. Refer closer to the ideas and language of the poem.
In “ Sturts Dreaming” compose by Bruce Lundgren, change has been explored from two different perspectives. Sturts (the famous adventurers) perspective and the Aborigines (the indigenous peoples) perspective. The ideas and language in the poem conveys the reality of their thoughts. We disclose that both perspectives point of view differ based on their background knowledge and understanding of their world and its concepts.
In Stanza 1, outline 1 we are introduced to captain Charles Sturt. “ Charlotte called him…Charlies dear” stating the connection he has between him and his wife. He is described as an “efficient explorer” in line 3. The use of Alliteration here creates a link between the 2 address to emphasis he is a capable man. “ Projecting a topographical vision” This quote suggests his idea of charting the land in accordance to his compound understanding. “ On this mysterious and unknown land” Clarifying that he has no knowledge of the inhabitants (Aboriginals) who own the land.
In line 6 it quotes “ Marshalling his officers and steadfast men” this is an insight to Sturts imagination. It describes him and his officers as an organised and sure crew, the (e) sounds in “steadfast men” have created Assonance, binding the words together to reinforce their reliability. In line 7 it quotes “Sheep’s on the hoof, provisions piled on drays”
In this quote an assure of a foreign animal is brought up and the assumption of him having some supplies stocked on the drays shows that he has a lot of reliance in taking on a long expedition. “and wasted by patient pairs… of plodding bullocks” describes the determination of the pairs carrying the heavy loads.
