Does a college essay need to be related to your potential?
That is one of the questions that many students ask the experts here
especially when they are given open essays. Well the answer is both
yes and no.
Yes because there is a higher likelihood that one will
write a good essay if one selects an issue that one finds a lot of
interest in and one that one is more than capable of writing about
and No because in most cases, one is given essays that are totally
not related to one’s potential but the students has to still excel
in these papers.
Failing to write an essay well because the issue in
the essay is not related to one’s potential could result in a fail
and therefore interfere with one’s future. However, when one is
given an open topic, it is always good that one selects an issue that
is familiar and an issue that one can with relative ease find plenty
of data to support ones arguments in the paper.
After settling on an
issue that one is very familiar with, one should pay a lot of
attention to the organization of the essay. Instructors expect that
each and every academic paper that has been written to have a
distinct beginning middle and end sections.
Each essay should have an
introduction in which readers are informed about what to expect from
the essay and what the paper is all about and a distinct middle
section where the writer presents several arguments and defends them
accordingly. The end section should summarize everything.
