12/16/09 World Civ. Extra Credit Paper In the book Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fate of Human Societies, author Jared Diamond, a biologist, illustrates his view of the development of the world. In the prologue, Yali, a New guinea fowl politician sets forth a question that sets the basis for the symmetry of the book: Why were Europeans able to dominate so separate many societies? Diamond provides an answer by explaining the historical developments on most continents from 11,000 B.C., approximately when village life began in a few parts of the world to the present day. Diamonds argument is that geography is the most important factor in shaping the worlds civilization. Some races are non genetically superior to other races, besides rather advantaged by location. Throughout the book Diamond proves his thesis by counsel on how populations developed, agriculture and technology.
