It was written in the mid 20th century (about 1971) and is sit in the vast lands of Denmark. Not only is this story a fantasy but also a retelling of the Beowulf epic. Structure:
I believe that this entire book of account is written in a semi-chronological order. The story describes the growing up of Grendel. He goes from an innocent little monster to one that sees the world through a different pair of eyes. Throughout the book, one sees the world through the 1st person. The world is constructed through Grendels understanding of the world and through the interweaving of the text. Grendel is the type of story that shows the military personnel in the monster that has been introduced in the Beowulf epic. Through the point of view of this book, one can see the structure of what Grendels dispute is based upon allowing us to recognize and feel Grendels character.

This depicts the various other creatures that share the vast landscape of Denmark with Grendel.
