Spanish Armada
The Spanish Armada proved to be a great disaster. The face defeated Spain due to Spains errors and Philips bad deciton making. Spain control lead what was called the Spanish Netherlands, now Holland and Belgium. Holland wanted its independence, they didnt like being made to be catholic. AntiCatholic survey was reaching new heights as a leave of the attempted invasion of England by Spains Catholic forces, led by the celebrated Armada (Dersin 103). Many in Holland were cloak-and-dagger Protestants, scared to publicity state this out loud if they did they would be in great danger. Spain even used a secret police called inquisition to find Protestants undercover. The English had been helping the Dutch Protestants in Holland and when Philip 11 found out he was outraged and disapproved. Philip had briefly been married to Elizabeths half sister bloody shame at a time when England was Catholic. Philip could now control the English Channel and his ships could have a easy passage from Spain to the Spanish Netherlands. Spanish troops stationed their could be easily suppled. English sea dogs were causing a great deal of damage to Spains trade in silver.
Sir Francis Drake attacked Spanish ships off of the West Indies and Spain unconnected a vast sum of money when the ships carrying silver sink or had their cargo stolen by Drake. Drake was a hero to England besides to Spain he was a no good pirate. Spain believed that Queen Elizabeth knew close this and did nothing. Philip felt that it was his duty to ensure that their was no more Catholics arrested or/and killed in England.
Their are so many reasons why Philip resolute to attach England. Many that envolved mistakes and serious problems leading up to the Spanish Armada. In 1587, Drake attacked Cadiz harbor and destroyed or/and damaged ships, which many were being prepared by the Spanish for the Armada.
