Introduction / Thesis
There are many nobble stories and each display a distinguishable character(s) in which mass
foot often relate to. I have elect to compare and contrast two short stories The theme of an
instant by Kate Chopin and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber. I selected these
two because of the content of the text which appeals to me because of the characters abilities to
dream. Both Kate Chopin in The Story of an Hour and James Thurber in The Secret Life of
Walter Mitty question the relationship between married couples. The authors reach similar
conclusions by very different methods. As both pieces depict more or less trials and tribulations of
a union marriage, such as the want of self-reliant and excitement experiences that a marriage
can inadvertently inhibit.
incomplete character relates well to their spouse and is unhappy in their married situation and
dream of a different life. Mitty and Mrs. Mallard are loved but long to be free and do something
nearly their current state of unhappiness.
Both short stories can examine that love can be a prison
when it is supposed to make people happy. Isolation, alienation and the basic require of freedom of
the spirit are theme running through with(predicate) both stories. The short story narratives are used by both
authors, has a clear timeframe, and are told in terzetto person form.
Chopin writes a brief scene from Mrs. Mallards life which stuns the reader with the knowledge
she is joyful at the news program of her husbands death. The story covers a space of just now one hour,
which is filled with revelations about Mrs. Mallard. (as cited in Clugston, 2010) Thurber also
writes about a period in which Walters life, covering a mean solar day of shopping with his wife (as cited in
